All vintage and antique items have flaws. That is the nature and charm of aged and well-loved decor. If you are looking for pristine new decor, please do not purchase vintage or antique items from my shop. Everything I carry will show signs of age, use, and history. Please look closely at all photographs and read the description carefully before purchasing.

Beautiful North Carolina salt-glazed folk pottery bowl featuring classic cobalt hand-painted decoration and a warm buff stoneware body.

This piece is wheel thrown and finished with a traditional salt glaze exterior, which creates the distinctive “orange peel” texture typical of Southern utilitarian pottery traditions. The exterior is decorated with expressive cobalt brushwork, while the interior features a rich dark brown glaze commonly used in functional Southern pottery.

The form, glaze, and decoration are characteristic of Catawba Valley / Seagrove North Carolina pottery traditions, where salt glazing and cobalt decoration have been used for generations by regional potters.

This bowl has a wonderful rustic presence and would make a beautiful addition to a studio pottery collection, farmhouse kitchen, or Southern folk pottery display.

⸻

Details

• Handmade studio / folk pottery
• Salt glazed exterior with cobalt decoration
• Dark glazed interior
• Wheel thrown stoneware

Size

• Diameter: approximately 6 inches
• Height: approximately 3.5 inches

⸻

Condition

Very good vintage condition overall.

There are small firing or drying cracks present in the foot ring on the base (see photo). These cracks are confined to the foot ring and do not extend into the interior of the bowl, and the piece remains solid and stable.

No chips or repairs observed.

⸻

Notes for Collectors

Salt-glazed pottery with cobalt decoration is strongly associated with the pottery traditions of North Carolina’s Catawba Valley and Seagrove regions, where many family potteries have produced utilitarian stoneware for generations.

Unsigned examples like this are often attributed to regional folk pottery traditions rather than a specific individual potter, which is common for handmade functional wares produced in small kiln batches.

⸻

Shipping Note

Shipping costs have become quite expensive, and I want you to know that I do not profit from shipping fees. Rates are calculated directly by the sales platform and the carrier based on package size, weight, and destination.

I take great care packaging items safely using protective materials so they arrive securely.

Combined shipping is always available for multiple purchases — simply request an invoice before paying.Antique and vintage item condition
Please remember that vintage and antique items have lived full lives before reaching your home. Signs of age such as light scratches, surface wear, patina, minor discoloration, tiny flea bites, manufacturing irregularities, age-related fading, crazing, tarnish, or other imperfections are common and should be expected with previously owned pieces. I do my absolute best to carefully inspect, photograph, and describe each item honestly and thoroughly; however, due to the nature of vintage and antique goods, there may occasionally be minor signs of wear, imperfections, repairs, or age-related characteristics that are overlooked or not immediately visible during inspection. These characteristics are considered part of the charm, authenticity, and history of vintage and antique items and are not typically considered defects. Please review all photos carefully and feel free to ask any questions prior to purchase, as all sales are based on the understanding that these pieces are pre-owned and will naturally show evidence of age and use over time. I do not refund based on "this wasn't what I expected". My pictures are very clear and obvious. The only thing you might not be able to discern without an in-person inspection might be color as that can be different from one monitor to another. However, I explain the colors very clearly and that should never be cause for a return.

Aged Metals
Aged metals—including sterling silver, silver plate, brass, and copper—naturally develop character over time. Silver will tarnish (a normal oxidation process), while brass and copper may darken, dull, or develop patina and verdigris. I do not polish these finishes, as many collectors value the depth, warmth, and authenticity they bring. You may also see light wear, including areas where silver plate has thinned to reveal underlying metal, along with age spots, surface variations, or minor discoloration. These are not defects, but expected signs of age that reflect the history and unique character of each piece. I do not accept returns because something was not polished or has rust or other logical conditions for aged pieces. My pictures are very clear.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1009/1465/9604/files/26f495aa-cb8b-48e4-899e-e6bc0578f8e1.jpg?v=1782085538
https://needlework-farmhouse.myshopify.com/products/north-carolina-salt-glaze-pottery-bowl-cobalt-folk-art-studio-pottery-7
