This beautifully handcrafted vintage bone and brass jewelry box combines natural materials with traditional decorative craftsmanship to create a timeless keepsake chest. Constructed with a wood core covered in polished bone panels, the box features engraved brass trim, decorative brass beading, four vibrant red cabochons, and an elegant domed lid. Opening the working brass latch reveals a striking deep purple velvet-lined interior, making it an ideal place to store rings, earrings, cufflinks, small heirlooms, crystals, or other treasured keepsakes.

Its compact size makes it equally at home on a vanity, dresser, bookshelf, writing desk, or curio cabinet. The warm aged tones of the bone and brass pair beautifully with traditional, bohemian, eclectic, maximalist, and globally inspired interiors.

Unlike many examples of these vintage export boxes, this piece retains all of its decorative hardware and features a particularly attractive purple velvet interior that provides a beautiful contrast to the naturally aged bone and warm brass accents.

Condition

Very good vintage condition. The brass latch closes securely, and the hinges operate smoothly. The velvet interior remains clean with light age-appropriate wear. The bone panels display natural coloration and age-related toning that enhance the character of the piece. Brass hardware retains its original patina, and the decorative cabochons remain securely attached. Please review all photographs carefully, as they are an important part of the description.

Vintage bone and brass boxes like this were handcrafted as decorative export pieces and remain highly collectible today. Their combination of natural materials, traditional metalwork, and functional design makes them equally desirable as jewelry storage, keepsake boxes, ring boxes, or decorative accents for curated interiors.

The brass accents have intentionally been left unpolished to preserve their authentic vintage character and warm patina developed over decades of age.

I specialize in vintage and antique items that have been previously loved and are expected to display signs of age and use. Every listing includes detailed descriptions and numerous photographs to accurately represent each item's condition, including any notable wear or imperfections. Please review the description and all photos carefully before purchasing, as normal age-related characteristics are not considered defects or grounds for a "not as described" return.

If your item arrives damaged or differs materially from its description, please contact me promptly so I can work with you to resolve the issue.

Vintage Item Statement

Thank you for considering one of my carefully selected vintage or antique treasures. I specialize in authentic pieces that have lived a full life before finding their way to my shop. Because of their age, these items should be expected to display the honest signs of time and use that make them unique—such as patina, finish wear, fading, scratches, dings, minor imperfections, age-related discoloration, or other characteristics consistent with decades of history. I make every effort to provide clear photographs, accurate descriptions, and note any significant condition issues; however, no vintage or antique item should be expected to present or perform like a newly manufactured product. By purchasing, you acknowledge that normal age-related wear and variations are part of the character and authenticity of vintage and antique pieces.

Metal Statement

Aged metals—including sterling silver, silver plate, brass, and copper—naturally develop character over time. Silver will tarnish (a normal oxidation process), while brass and copper may darken, dull, or develop patina and verdigris. I do not polish these finishes, as many collectors value the depth, warmth, and authenticity they bring. You may also see light wear, including areas where silver plate has thinned to reveal underlying metal, along with age spots, surface variations, or minor discoloration. These are not defects, but expected signs of age that reflect the history and unique character of each piece.
