This beautiful handmade vintage granny square afghan is an exceptional example of American fiber art. Measuring approximately 78 inches by 52 inches, it is generously sized as an oversized throw and is nearly large enough to use on a twin bed.
Unlike many vintage granny square blankets that repeat a single motif throughout, this afghan appears to have been thoughtfully designed using hundreds of unique color combinations set against a dramatic black background. The result is an eye-catching piece that feels both timeless and surprisingly modern.
According to the previous owner, this blanket was handmade in Greeneville, Tennessee by a woman who had been crocheting for over sixty years. While this history cannot be independently verified, it provides a wonderful glimpse into the care and craftsmanship invested in its creation.

Based on the substantial weight, texture, and feel, I believe this blanket may be a wool and acrylic blend. However, because the fiber content cannot be verified, it is being sold as fiber content unknown. It is also possible that it is entirely acrylic, although that seems less likely based on its weight and hand.
Condition
Excellent vintage condition.
No holes, stains, repairs, odors, or visible flaws were found during inspection. Colors remain vibrant, joins are secure, and the blanket displays beautifully. There is only the light, expected surface fuzzing associated with age and handmade textiles.
